Action Statement
Screening For Early Stage Cancer
Studies and experience has shown that if Cancer is detected early the chances for successful treatment increases considerably. Many a time the early signs are missed. Screening camps in selected areas cold help to identify early stage cancer.
Financial Assistance For Needy Patients
The economically weaker sections of society when faced with cancer treatment go through considerable financial strain. RCRF had been having a program, from inception in 1995, to provide financial support. This though might not address all the financial needs, has come to the help of patients in many instances. This is the core activity of RCRF.
Post Treatment Support
Many a time we find that after the treatment and remission of cancer, access to prescribed medicines is also affected by financial constraints. To a limited extent RCRF arranges for medicines and in some cases for nutritional supplements as prescribed.
Palliative Care Initiative
We have come across many cases where the patients in terminal stages do not respond to treatment or has gone through all the possible treatments. Adequate care is needed, which we plan to provide by associating with organizations which specialize in providing such care.
Counselling For Patients And Families
This is an ongoing program to help patients and families to handle stressful situations and to provide mental support during the treatment and subsequent recovery. Volunteers are sought for this support.
Support For Cancer Care Research Programs
RCRF plans to provide such additional support as might be needed for carrying out programs for improving the facilities and treatment to patients. This could be from encouraging good data management to studies for improving the support given to patients.
Volunteering
If one is inclined to volunteer there are many areas of help one can provide to patients who come for treatment. From helping to register for treatment, and helping in many ways to go through the process of treatment, volunteering is needed in many areas.
- To assist in screening camps.
- To assist in medical camps and blood donation camps
- To talk to the public in forums about early stage detection and helping the interested persons to go through screening process.
- To talk to parents and families of patients to provide support and counselling.
- To counsel and help and assist terminally ill patients.
There are many areas of service where volunteering is needed.
Write to us if you are interested to be a volunteer.
